Wood Flooring maintenance

In recommending the best parquet maintenance (care, cleaning and treatment of wooden floors) it is necessary to distinguish the finish of the parquet (painted or oiled) for a parquet treatment that it is effective, performing it with ordinary and extraordinary intervals.

Maintenance of varnished parquet

Ordinary maintenance
– Provide a doormat at the entrance to the house to remove dust and abrasive particles from the soles of the shoes;
– usually clean the floor with a cloth dampened with a little water and neutral detergent (avoid the use of alcohol and ammonia);
– treat the floor periodically (see table below) with self-polishing or re-polishing resin-based protective products in water dispersion.

The first cleaning of the floor can begin about 7 days after its painting. Parquet maintenance can begin after 2-4 weeks.

Extraordinary maintenance
After several years of operation, the wooden flooring can be worn or damaged depending on the use. Unlike many: other types of flooring, the wooden one can be completely renewed by:

– replacement of any damaged elements;
– new smoothing (a maximum thickness of about 0.2-0.3 mm is removed) and relative grouting;
– sanding and new painting and / or oiling.

Maintenance of oiled parquet

Ordinary and extra-ordinary maintenance
– Cleaning is done exactly as for painted floors;
– then apply liquid wax for oil-treated parquet, following the instructions of parquet manufacturer .
– Care must be taken not to exceed the quantities and above all not to wet the floor too much with water and liquid wax, in order not to run into the bleaching defect.
